It is sad indeed to report that Richard passed away in early August. He was a valued long-term member of our Society - having joined us in January 2000 and he had a quirky and individual character which made him very likeable (as instanced by the long list of shocked reactions to the news on his Facebook page). Approaching his 43rd birthday was a tragically premature time to leave us. He was to the last a slim, elegant, handsome and smartly dressed man, as the picture in characteristic pose (left) taken by a SATS friend, Nathan, a few weeks ago testifies. May he rest in peace.

Friday, 13th March, may not have been an ideal date for a revival of the once annual socials of the Traditional Attire Group, but despite the storm clouds hovering, the excellent dinner at the Farmers Club put everyone in an affable mood, and the genial atmosphere continued in the cosy bar and lounge until late. The event had been jointly sponsored by Sir Royston (pictured centre), who runs the internet shop 'Fogey Unlimited; and the Suit and Tie Society, and it can truly said that a good time was had by all.

With their continuing popularity among our members, we had no hesitation in keeping our tradition of holding a 'black tie' dinner at a London club in February, and so met at the Savile Club on St.Valentine's Day, for a glass of Champagne and a good three-course meal with wine. It couldn't be claimed that romance was in the air, but a handsome young non-member appeared without any advance notice and the club kindly provided him with a meal, for which he texted his thanks the next day. All part of the service!

The Amba Charing Cross Hotel is certainly in the centre of things, and as well as conveniently situated at the eponymous railway station, it is an elegant and beautifully maintained venue, where we enjoyed a first class dinner on the last day of January, 2020. The Manager of the Terrace Restaurant had been very welcoming, and the food and service were outstanding, as well as reasonably priced. The bar was just behind where our large group dined, and so we adjourned there for the remainder of the evening, replete and relaxed!

The 2019 Christmas Dinner - starting with a fizz!

The 2019 Christmas Dinner - starting with a fizz!

Our 2019 Christmas Dinner on December 14th was by general consent one of the best we have ever enjoyed. We were fortunate in being able to dine at the elegant Oriental Club, in the heart of central London, thanks to one of our own members and to the efficiency and enthusiasm of the club staff who made this an occasion to remember. We started in our usual fashion, with a drinks reception, comprising the club’s own stock of Champagne. Four of our number are pictured (left) getting into the mood!
